UCR 2027 fees by fleet size
The fee depends on how many commercial motor vehicles you own or operate. It is a flat amount per company, not per truck.
| Trucks | 2027 fee | 2026 fee |
|---|---|---|
| 0–2 | $55 | $46 |
| 3–5 | $167 | $138 |
| 6–20 | $333 | $276 |
| 21–100 | $1,163 | $963 |
| 101–1,000 | $5,548 | $4,592 |
| 1,001 or more | $54,165 | $44,836 |
Brokers, freight forwarders and leasing companies that do not operate trucks pay the lowest fee, $55.
Who has to register
UCR applies to companies that operate commercial motor vehicles in interstate commerce: for-hire motor carriers, private carriers that haul their own goods, freight forwarders, brokers and leasing companies. Carriers that run only within one state are exempt. If you are not sure, the official site has a short "Do I need to register?" check.
How to count your trucks
- Count commercial motor vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating or gross vehicle weight of 10,001 lb or more, owned or leased for more than 30 days.
- Use the number on your latest MCS-150, or the number you operated in the 12 months ending June 30, 2026. If you use the 12-month number, you also file a UCR-2 form listing those vehicles.
- If the count on your MCS-150 is out of date, update it in Motus. The fee follows the number FMCSA has on file.
Where and how to pay
Register through the National Registration System at ucr.gov with your USDOT number. 41 states take part in the UCR Plan. Some private websites file for you and charge a service fee on top of the UCR fee; the official portal charges only the fee.
What happens if you don't register
Enforcement officers can stop and detain trucks operating interstate without a current UCR registration, and states audit carriers to check that the right fee was paid. Unlike IFTA, there is no grace period into the new year: the 2027 fee has to be paid before January 1, 2027.
One calendar for every renewal
UCR, IFTA, MCS-150 updates, driver medical cards and annual reviews all expire on different dates. We track them for your fleet and tell you before anything lapses.
